Both Orangeburg and Calhoun county councils unanimously approved the partnership.
According to South Carolina State Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter, MUSC is a good fit for this partnership due to its accessibility to affordable healthcare.
“The affiliation is in the best long term interest of the surrounding counties and more importantly the people in these counties who need healthcare,” said Ms. Cobb-Hunter.
Ms. Cobb-Hunter also said that her vision is to engage more local colleges and universities in research opportunities at the hospital.
