The city and the hospital’s board have been at a costly legal stalemate since last year, when the city council hired a consultant to explore selling the hospital, to the board’s chagrin.
If passed, the bill would allow the hospital’s board to vote to break away from the city’s ownership and function as a non-profit and would make the hospital ineligible for sale or lease for 15 years. Residents could also vote to spin off the hospital with a petition to put the move on the ballot, according to the report.
