Insight to take over 2 closed Illinois hospitals

Flint, Mich.-based Insight Health Systems is set to take over shuttered Chicago-based Weiss Memorial Hospital and Oak Park, Ill.-based West Suburban Medical Center.

Weiss Memorial closed Aug. 8, 2025, and West Suburban shuttered June 11 after the facility’s last functional elevator broke down.

The plan comes after the hospitals’ real estate owner, Ramco Healthcare Holdings, reached a settlement agreement Sept. 16 with their existing operator Resilience Healthcare for Ramco to buy out Resilience and take over the hospitals, effective Sept. 17. Ramco will then sell the hospitals to Insight, a Ramco spokesperson confirmed with Becker’s

“Ramco looks forward to the reopening of West Suburban Medical Center and Weiss Memorial Hospital so that those facilities can resume serving the communities that depend on them,” Ramco Healthcare Holdings owner Rathnakar Patlola said in a Sept. 17 statement shared with Becker’s

Ramco asked a judge in early August to enforce a settlement that would sell the facilities for $1 to Flint, Mich.-based Insight Health Systems. In early September, the Illinois Department of Public Health revealed it would not extend a provisional license for Weiss Memorial.

“We were asked to step in at West Suburban and Weiss because these communities cannot afford to lose their hospitals, and Insight has done this hard work before,” Atif Bawahab, President and CEO, Insight Hospital and Medical Center, said in a Sept. 17 statement shared with Becker’s. “In the coming period, we will begin a careful assessment of both hospitals to determine the appropriate path forward for each. We want to be honest that this is the start of a long, phased process, not the end of one. There are real hurdles ahead — restoring licenses and certifications, rebuilding systems and staffing, meeting regulatory requirements and earning back the confidence of patients and providers — and none of that happens overnight.”

Becker’s has reached out to Resilience Healthcare CEO Manoj Prasad, MD, PhD, for comment, and will update this story should more information become available.
