EvergreenHealth, Valley General Hospital in Washington Approve Affiliation

EvergreenHealth in Kirkland, Wash., and Valley General Hospital in Monroe, Wash., approved an agreement that makes Valley General Hospital an affiliate of EvergreenHealth.

Valley General was immersed in merger discussions with Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Wash., and EvergreenHealth in July. By September, Valley General approved a business partnership with EvergreenHealth. Valley General had previously discussed a partnership with Capella Healthcare in Franklin, Tenn., but those discussions ended due to financial pressures.

According to the release, the partnership with EvergreenHealth will allow Valley General to better service its community with enhanced clinical services and by adopting EvergreenHealth's approach to clinical outcomes, patient safety and patient experience.

EvergreenHealth will develop a robust primary care practice staffed by EvergreenHealth physicians as well as a strong senior leadership team within Valley General to assist in developing a comprehensive clinical services plan, according to the release.

According to the release, the affiliation also provides Valley General patients with increased access to specialty care through EvergreenHealth's partnerships with Seattle-based Virginia Mason Medical Center as well as the Halvorson Cancer Center on EvergreenHealth's main campus, developed in partnership with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and slated to be fully open in January 2013.
