The current agreement involves linking UCSF Medical Center with Dignity’s St. Mary’s Medical Center and Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco, but UCSF and Dignity are aiming to have a firmer affiliation agreement in place by year’s end, according to the report.

UCSF spokesperson Karin Rush-Monroe said the two systems already have a strong collaborative relationship, and the goal of a closer partnership is to deliver higher quality care at lower costs.

“This proposed partnership would bring together the academic, research, education, tertiary and quaternary care strengths of UCSF with the community-based primary and secondary care expertise of Dignity Health to build a unified healthcare delivery system in San Francisco,” Ms. Rush-Monroe said in an email statement.
