According to the release, Dan Slipkovich, Capella Healthcare CEO, said that selling Jacksonville Medical Center so it may affiliate with RMC makes sense in light of a tough reimbursement climate and a transformative time in the healthcare industry.
Jacksonville Medical Center is the last hospital in Alabama owned by Capella. Alabama has one of the lowest Medicare wage indexes in the country, and healthcare providers may need considerable size to survive and thrive in a state with the lowest Medicare reimbursement per hospital.
According to the release, the deal’s anticipated closing date is Dec. 31 with an effective date of Jan. 1.
