Toni Ardabell, CEO of Bon Secours Richmond Health System and Bon Secours Virginia Health System, said the $43 million to renovate the school building was more expensive than the $15 million it would cost to build a freestanding college of nursing on the health system’s Richmond, Va., campus, according to the article.

Officials said they instead plan to demolish the vacant school building and build a two-story medical office building in its place, according to the article.

Plans for the medical office building and the freestanding college of nursing have not yet gone through the health system’s internal approval process. Health system officials said they plan to file the necessary paperwork to begin the demolition process in the next couple of months.

The health system acquired the property three years ago as part of a larger agreement with the city of Richmond, according to the article.
