Under the letter of intent, Alliance Community Hospital will retain its brand, management and staff. The hospital will also be governed by a 14-member board of trustees, with each institution maintaining equal representation.

Officials said proceeds from the affiliation — to be determined in the definitive agreement — will be donated to the Alliance Community Hospital Foundation and be used to improve the health of community residents.

The Aultman Health Foundation and Alliance Community Hospital previously engaged in a joint venture agreement nearly 20 years ago that resulted in the construction of the hospital. They also built a heart center and a cancer center in Alliance.

Officials expect to sign a definitive agreement in fall 2017, and anticipate the affiliation to be effective Jan. 1, pending regulatory approval.
