The proposed deal would allow Huntsville to acquire Decatur General and the Decatur General West psychiatric facility by assuming its debt of $25 million.

Huntsville and Decatur have had a business alliance for the past year and Huntsville purchased Decatur’s Parkway Medical Center from Capella Healthcare two months ago.

Huntsville Hospital CEO David Spillers believes the merger would bring financial solvency to both hospitals and would like to see a completed merger by June 30, according to the report.
