The city of Jackson, Ala., is buying the hospital for $3 million, according to the report. The deal, facilitated by the Jackson Health Care Authority, was finalized after two years of negotiations.
The hospital will retain its name and continue to offer emergency care, surgery, diagnostic imaging, primary care and other services, according to the report. Public ownership will also give the hospital access to federal and state funding unavailable to private institutions.
Jackson Mayor Paul South said the city’s acquisition of the hospital is expected to lead to expansion, an increase in staffing and new specialists, according to the report.
