2. CHS Plans to Acquire 3-4 Hospitals in 2013
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems announced its fourth-quarter profit more than doubled to $62.6 million, and company executives said they plan to expand CHS even further this year with “three to four targeted hospital acquisitions.”
3. Tenet Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire Emanuel Medical Center in California
Dallas-based hospital chain Tenet Healthcare entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 209-bed Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, Calif.
4. Summa Health System to Partner With Catholic Health Partners
Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health System and Cincinnati-based Catholic Health Partners approved a letter of intent to create a “strategic partnership,” pending final negotiations.
5. Wise Regional in Texas to Issue $19M in Bonds for Hospital Purchase
Wise Regional Health System in Decatur, Texas, will sell $19 million in bonds as it looks to purchase the bankrupt North Texas Community Hospital in Bridgeport.
6. City Council Approves HMA, Bayfront Medical Center Purchase in Florida
St. Petersburg, Fla., city council members voted to approve a 50-year lease of Bayfront Medical Center’s city-owned land to Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates.
7. Asante, Ashland Community Hospital in Oregon Near Merger
A letter of intent to affiliate Medford, Ore.-based Asante and Ashland (Ore.) Community Hospital was unanimously approved by the Ashland City Council last night, paving the way for a planned merger.
8. Care New England, Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island File Affiliation Documents
Providence, R.I.-based Care New England Health System and Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket have filed their affiliation agreement and other requisite application materials with the Rhode Island Department of Health, the state attorney general’s office and the Federal Trade Commission.
9. Community Health, Wishard-Eskenazi in Indianapolis to Partner
Community Health Network and Wishard-Eskenazi Health, both headquartered in Indianapolis, announced they have entered into a partnership agreement with approval from the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County.
