Atlanta's Saint Joseph's Hospital to Sell

Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta will soon sell, according to a Georgia Bulletin report.

In addition to the Atlanta hospital, Saint Joseph's Translational Research Institute, Medical Group, Service Corp. and East Georgia Hospital will be sold, hospital officials said.

Saint Joseph's Hospital is a member of Newtown Square, Pa.-based Catholic Health East, which is cosponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, among others. The Sisters of Mercy also founded Saint Joseph's in 1880.

The board of trustees will vote on a bidder after receiving recommendations from a committee of Sisters of Mercy representatives, lay board members and physicians. The decision must then be approved by the Sisters of Mercy, the state attorney general, the Federal Trade Commission and the Vatican.

The board said it will choose a bidder based on its employee practices, charitable work and commitment to a community-based mission.
