Workshop delivers burnout identification, support program to 10k physicians

Survey results show as many as 54 percent of U.S. physicians suffer from at least one symptom of burnout, which could potentially lead to impaired patient care and decreased mental well-being.

Growing national attention on the epidemic of physician burnout has prompted greater assessment of this issue, its causes and possible interventions.

"All physicians graduate with a gaping hole in their medical education around stress management and burnout prevention," said Dike Drummond, MD, CEO and founder of TheHappyMD.com. "Our workshop fills that hole in a public forum and starts to shift the culture of the organization. Doctors learn a common language to describe the experience of burnout and are able to both ask for help and offer help — perhaps for the first time. This is the initial step in hard wiring the culture of the Quadruple Aim into any group that employs physicians."

Dr. Drummond created TheHappyMD.com to help organizations and physicians identify and address signs of burnout. He has personally delivered the Burnout Proof Live Workshop to more than 10,000 physicians in 300 separate trainings for 48 corporate clients in 2016. The flagship workshop teaches participants about the signs, symptoms, causes and effects of physician burnout, as well as how to recognize burnout in one's self and others.
