Howard University fires campus security guards involved in patient 'dumping' incident

Washington, D.C.-based Howard University officials have fired two campus security guards and their supervisor after a video surfaced showing the individuals mistreating a Howard University Hospital patient upon discharge, according to The Washington Post.

A video shot by bystanders May 16 showed three campus security guards pushing an unidentified female patient in a wheelchair down the sidewalk. The guard pushing the wheelchair in the video comes to an abrupt halt, causing the woman to fall out of the wheelchair and onto the ground. The woman reportedly remains motionless on the sidewalk with no one coming to her aid.

Gabriel Adegoke, president of the Metropolitan Campus Police Officers Union, which represents the officers, told The Washington Post the female officer in the video, along with one of the male officers and their supervisor had been fired. The second male individual in the video was not terminated.

Officials previously said the woman had been treated for undisclosed medical issues at the Washington, D.C.-based hospital April 24.

Howard University reportedly did not respond to The Washington Post's request for comment.
