Rachel Rudeen, an admissions coordinator for the University of Minnesota Medical School Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis, told U.S. News and World Report the school’s admissions officers use the application “as a tool to gauge whether an applicant has the character necessary to excel as a doctor.”
Ms. Rudeen said the essays that stand out demonstrate the applicant’s grit, humility and empathy.
