9 new medical education programs in 2015

Here are nine medical education programs that have been announced or launched since February, beginning with the most recent.

1. New medical school to open in Harlem, NY
The City University of New York will open a new medical school in Harlem, New York, according to a Crain's New York Business report. The CUNY School of Medicine, which will be located on the City College campus, was accredited July 14.

2. Ohio University opens medical school at South Pointe Hospital
Ohio University's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine extended its campus to include a new medical school at Cleveland Clinic's South Pointe Hospital (Warrensville Heights, Ohio), according to a Cleveland.com report.

3. University of North Texas announces medical school partnership
The University of North Texas Health Science Center and Texas Christian University, both located in Fort Worth, partnered to open a new medical school by 2018, according to a Denton Record-Chronicle report. The universities have yet to choose a name for the medical school.

4. Valley Children's, Stanford partner to launch pediatric residency
Madera, Calif.-based Valley Children's Healthcare and Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine announced a partnership to establish a pediatric residency and fellowship program.

5. $27M approved for new medical school in Las Vegas
The Nevada Assembly approved a new University of Nevada, Las Vegas medical school with $27 million in funding, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

6. Mayo Medical School branching out to Arizona, Florida
Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Medical School will double the size of its enrolling class starting in 2017. The medical school announced it received endorsement to expand and establish two branch campuses in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Jacksonville, Fla.

7. New medical school campus to open in Joplin
Kansas City (Mo.) University of Medicine and Biosciences' College of Osteopathic Medicine announced its plans were approved to open a new Joplin, Mo., medical campus.

8. Lawmakers lift 98-year restriction for WSU to open new medical school
Washington state senators approved a bill to lift a 98-year-old restriction barring Pullman-based Washington State University from opening a public medical school in the state, according to The Seattle Times. WSU is able to open a medical school in Spokane, Wash., which is slated to open in 2017.

9. Sarasota Memorial Hospital to launch new residency program
Sarasota (Fla.) MemorialHospital is finalizing an agreement with Florida State University to establish a new internal medicine residency program, according to the Bradenton Herald.
