8-months pregnant and toting a child, image of physician at work goes viral

A photo of Megan Meier, MD, a sports medicine physician based in Oklahoma City, on the job is making waves on the internet for giving a glimpse of what its like to balance a career in medicine with being a mother.

The photo shows Dr. Meier — who is 35-weeks pregnant — examining an athlete's arm on the sidelines of a high school football game with her 3-year-old daughter strapped to her back. According to CTV News, a friend of Dr. Meier's posted the photo online with the caption, "This is what happens when you are 35 weeks pregnant, (your) husband leaves town for the weekend, childcare for (your 3-year-old) falls through, and you have a game to cover!"

The photo has been shared more than 6,000 times, according to the report.

On her own Facebook page, Dr. Meier reposted the photo. "I really believe that you can have it all and find a great balance to a multi-faceted career and life. However, it takes a lot of hard work and improvisation at times. Most importantly, it takes a strong community of people supporting each other to make it work," she wrote as part of the caption.

"We have come a long way in 2016."
