The closure of Kansas City-based Kindred Hospitals East is part of a larger push by Kindred to restructure its LTAC hospitals. Over the past year, the health system has sold or closed 21 facilities.
A statement previously available on the Kindred Hospitals East website said it would consolidate services to a different Kansas City-based Kindred subsidiary — Kindred Hospital Northland. As a result, Kindred Hospital East has already stopped accepting new admissions.
“If there are opportunities where we can consolidate with other LTACs that we have in that current geography, we like the idea of doing that,” Kindred Healthcare President and CEO Benjamin Breier said, according to the report.
