Massachusetts Medical Society offers physicians course on medical marijuana

Though the Massachusetts Medical Society opposes medical and recreational use of marijuana, the group is offering its physician members educational courses about its medical properties, according to MassLive.com.

Medical marijuana has been legal in Massachusetts since 2012, and recreational marijuana became legalized in 2016. Because it is legal, Massachusetts Medical Society President Henry Dorkin, MD, said it is his organization's responsibility to train physicians in its best practices.

"Since it passed as the law of the land, we have to see how it can be implemented with the least injury, toxicity and problems associated with it," Dr. Dorkin said, according to MassLive.com.

The courses will teach physicians about the medical, physiological and mental health effects of marijuana, as well as dosing instructions.
