Ms. Manning, who served as deputy assistant secretary for the Office of Population Affairs, spent much of her career fighting abortion and openly criticized various contraceptive methods. She oversaw the Title X program, which provides family planning funding for poor Americans or those without health insurance.
Security officials escorted Ms. Manning from the building Friday, according to the report. No further details regarding the reason for her abrupt departure were disclosed.
Valerie Huber, who has served as chief of staff in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health since June, has been appointed to acting deputy assistant secretary for the Office of Population Affairs.
“HHS would like to thank [Ms. Manning] for her service to this administration and the American people,” HHS spokeswoman Caitlin Oakley told The Post.
