The layoffs are part of a drive to increase efficiency by reorganizing hospital staff, according to the report. Eight of the hospital’s 47 licensed vocational nurses were laid off, as well as 29 of its 52 nurses’ aides.
The nurses’ union, the United Nurses Association of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, criticized the layoffs and said they will result in more work for the hospital’s registered nurses.
However, Corona Regional has hired 19 additional RNs since August.
