Biden announces leader of the CDC

The Biden administration announced June 16 that President Joe Biden will appoint Mandy Cohen, MD, former North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services secretary, director of the CDC.

She replaces Rochelle Walensky, MD, who is stepping down June 30. Dr. Cohen will step into the role in early July, officials told The Washington Post.

Dr. Cohen specializes in internal medicine and has been the secretary for the North Carolina health department since 2017. She also previously served as the chief operating officer and chief of staff for CMS.
