3 ways new managers can send the right leadership signals

Stepping into a new leadership role can be intimidating and difficult, but there are some essential first steps you can take to help encourage confidence in your ability among team members, according to the Harvard Business Review.

 

Listed below are three ways you can help send your team the right leadership signals.

1. Set a value-based goal that gives your team something tangible to work toward and lets them know you are focused and driven.

2. Be clear and direct, as you will be interacting with many different people who probably have different communications styles. Don't enter your position with a soft message, and instead establish yourself as a clear an effective communicator.

3. Stay grounded and calm in the face of stress as many workers look to their manager for cues on how to handle a given situation. If a rough patch at work is enough to throw you into a tailspin, your workers will follow suit. Set the tone by handling these difficult situations calmly and with confidence.
