12 recent healthcare layoffs

The following healthcare layoffs were reported by Becker's Hospital Review so far in October. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

1. Beaumont contract termination prompts rehab provider to lay off 113 employees
Home Rehabilitation Services of Michigan will close its business in Commerce Township, resulting in the permanent layoff of all its employees.

2. Adventist Health Simi Valley cuts 31 positions
Adventist Health Simi Valley (Calif.), formerly Simi Valley Hospital, laid off 31 employees.

3. Northwell Health to lay off 107 as it winds down long-term care plan
New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health will shut down its Medicaid long-term care plan, North Shore-LIJ Health Plan, resulting in the layoff 107 employees.

4. PeaceHealth to lay off 95
Vancouver, Wash.-based PeaceHealth will lay off 95 employees as a result of outsourcing arrangements.

5. BCBS of South Carolina subsidiary to lay off undisclosed number of employees
Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina subsidiary PGBA, a Columbia, S.C.-based claims processing provider, is cutting an unspecified number of jobs.

6. Shuttering of Florida nursing home where 12 died affects 245 workers
Hollywood, Fla.-based Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills said 245 employees lost their jobs when the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration suspended the nursing home's license.

7. Miami Jewish Health Systems to cut 72 positions after contract termination
Miami Jewish Health Systems will cut 72 positions after a housekeeping contract termination.

8. Edward-Elmhurst Health to cut 200+ jobs
Naperville, Ill.-based Edward-Elmhurst Health revealed plans to cut approximately 234 jobs via layoffs and not filling vacant positions.

9. New York hospital cuts 2 management, 4 nonclinical staff positions
Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital, a member of Olean-based Upper Allegheny Health System, implemented layoffs.

10. Missouri hospital lays off 50, plans to close inpatient pediatrics nursing unit
Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo., which is managed by St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare, laid off 50 employees amid financial challenges. 

11. Lahey Health to cut roughly 75 jobs to shore up finances
Burlington, Mass.-based Lahey Health plans to lay off about 75 people to help improve its financial picture.

12. Outcome Health to lay off employees after announcing plans to add 2k
Chicago-based health IT provider Outcome Health plans to lay off an unspecified number of employees, after announcing it would hire an additional 2,000 workers over the next five years.
