Mitchell Rosner, MD, has been appointed to a three-year term as CEO of Charlottesville-based UVA Health and executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Rosner has served as interim executive vice president for the past seven months, according to a Sept. 12 health system news release.
The appointment by the board of visitors came after several UVA Health chairs and leaders requested it, writing in a letter to university leadership that during his interim tenure, Dr. Rosner “has gained and fostered the trust and respect of our faculty and lent much needed stability to a tumultuous period for UVA Health,” according to the release.
Dr. Rosner was tapped for the interim role in February after former CEO K. Craig Kent, MD, resigned. His resignation followed a Feb. 25 special meeting during which the university’s president and board were briefed on findings from an independent investigation into the health system.
Dr. Rosner has been a faculty member at the UVA School of Medicine for 21 years and served as chair of the department of medicine. He completed his residency and fellowship in nephrology at UVA Health University Medical Center.
UVA Health operates an academic medical center, three community hospitals, a specialty rehabilitation hospital and a network of primary and specialty care clinics.
