UPMC Presbyterian cardiac surgery chief to lead cardiovascular services for WVU Medicine

Vinay Badhwar, MD, chief of cardiac surgery at Pittsburgh-based UPMC Presbyterian, will leave his post to become executive chairman of Morgantown-based West Virginia University's heart and vascular institute, which is scheduled to open in January 2017, according to a Pittsburgh Business Times report.

In West Virginia, the master cardiac valve surgeon will lead cardiovascular services for Morgantown-based WVU Medicine.

"We're putting the West Virginia spirit to work by expanding our expertise in the area of advanced heart and vascular care for the people of West Virginia," Albert L. Wright Jr., president and CEO of West Virginia University Hospitals, said in a statement, according to the report. "Dr. Badhwar's inaugural role as the executive chairman of our cardiovascular service line will help us further transform all of WVU Medicine as a destination for people across the United States who need our advanced specialty services."
