University of Rochester Medical Center names new chief nursing executive

The University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center selected Karen K. Davis, PhD, MSN, RN, to serve as associate vice president and chief nursing executive, effective June 1.

She will also serve as assistant dean for clinical practice at the University of Rochester School of Nursing.

Dr. Davis comes to URMC from Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Health System. She joined Johns Hopkins in 1989. She served in numerous leadership roles, including as faculty associate at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and chief nursing officer at Howard County General Hospital, a Johns Hopkins Health System affiliate in Columbia, Md.

In her new role at URMC, Dr. Davis will oversee nursing operations at Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital, both located in Rochester, as well as affiliated UR Medicine hospitals. She will work closely with nursing leaders and CEOs at each hospital.

Dr. Davis succeeds Patricia Witzel, who will retire June 30.
