Mr. Muller assumed the CEO at Penn Medicine in 2003, prior to which he was president of the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System for around 15 years. He has also previously served as deputy commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare.
During Mr. Muller’s tenure, he oversaw the establishment of the Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation and helped forge partnerships with insurers such as Independence Blue Cross. Penn Medicine year was named the top healthcare employer in the nation on Forbes’ America’s Best Employers list this year.
Mr. Muller is also actively involved in community programs and spearheaded the creation of the Penn Medicine CAREs grant program, which supports over 180 community service initiatives.
“Penn Medicine’s stellar national position as one of the nation’s premier integrated academic medical centers is a reflection of [Mr. Muller’s] dedication, expertise and his innumerable contributions,” said University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann in a statement.
