UCI Health System CEO Richard Gannotta to depart for leadership role at medical tech company

Richard J. Gannotta, CEO of University of California, Irvine Health System, is resigning Sept. 30 to pursue an opportunity at medical technology company Masimo.

Mr. Gannotta, who became permanent CEO of the health system in June 2018, is leaving to become chief healthcare administrative officer at Masimo, also based in Irvine.

Mr. Gannotta was named interim health system CEO in February 2018, when Howard Federoff, MD, PhD, resigned from the role. Prior to that, Mr. Gannotta was COO of UCI Health System. He has prior leadership experience at NYC Health + Hospitals in New York City and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

"We want to thank Rick for helping establish UCI Health as one of the premier healthcare systems in Southern California," said Steven Goldstein, MD, PhD, vice chancellor for health affairs at the University of California, Irvine. "Under his tenure, the health system's patient services, quality and safety metrics and financial results have improved."

UCI Health System will conduct a national search to select Mr. Gannotta's successor.
