Ms. Snyder — who oversaw the agency’s day-to-day operations and allocation of resources — worked with the technology experts who constructed HealthCare.gov and was actively involved in efforts to repair the site, which experienced numerous technical problems following its launch, according to the report. Ms. Snyder’s deputy, Tim Love, will take over as acting COO.
In an email to agency employees, CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner wrote Ms. Snyder had planned to retire a year ago but stayed on at Ms. Tavenner’s request, according to the report.
Ms. Snyder is the second high-ranking CMS official to step down following the federal exchange site’s glitch-ridden rollout. In November, Tony Trenkle left his position as CMS CIO and director of the Office of Information Services to take a position in the private sector.
