Suresh Gunasekaran to head University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics

Iowa City-based University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics named Suresh Gunasekaran CEO, effective Nov. 15. He will also serve as associate vice president of Iowa City-based University of Iowa Health Care.

Mr. Gunasekaran is currently COO of University of Texas Southwestern Health System in Dallas. He is also senior executive officer for a joint venture population health services company. His prior experience includes serving as assistant vice president and CIO at UT Southwestern.

“Mr. Gunasekaran is ideally qualified to lead UI Hospitals & Clinics. His broad experience in healthcare information technology, physician group practices, and children’s hospitals is impressive,” said Brooks Jackson, MD, University of Iowa’s vice president for medical affairs.

Mr. Gunasekaran holds an MBA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He succeeds Kenneth P. Kates, who is retiring after a10-year tenure.
