St. Vincent's Medical Center Clay County names new president: 4 things to know

St. Vincent's Medical Center Clay County in Middleburg, Fla., has named James P. Machado president, effective April 4.

Here are four things to know about Mr. Machado.

1. He will take over for Blain Claypool, who now serves as president of acute care at Jacksonville, Fla.-based St. Vincent's HealthCare, a ministry of St. Louis-based Ascension. St. Vincent's Medical Center Clay County is one of St. Vincent's HealthCare's three hospitals.

2. Mr. Machado comes to his new role after serving in various positions for Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, including CFO, COO and most recently CEO.

3. Prior to serving with Community Health Systems, he was an officer in the U.S. Air Force, working primarily in the healthcare field.

4. Mr. Machado earned a bachelor's degree from Westfield (Mass.) State College, now Westfield State University, and a master's degree in business administration from Western New England College in Springfield, Mass.
