Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System has named Ellen Wiegand senior vice president and chief information officer.
Ms. Wiegand joins the 18-hospital system from Richmond, Va.-based VCU Health, where she served as senior vice president and chief information and digital officer, according to a Nov. 3 MultiCare news release.
During her VCU Health tenure, she developed and implemented an AI strategy to reduce providers’ work burden, according to the release. She also made the system a leader among Epic users and made improvements in quality, safety and outcomes.
She has more than 20 years of healthcare IT and digital transformation leadership experience. She previously served as vice president and CIO of Seattle-based Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.
Ms. Wiegand joins MultiCare days after Corvallis, Ore.-based Samaritan Health Services completed its affiliation with the system. As part of the agreement, MultiCare has committed to investing $700 million over 10 years to expand access to care, recruit and retain clinicians, support workforce development and improve facilities and technology across Samaritan’s region.
“This is an exciting time to join MultiCare as we expand throughout the Pacific Northwest,” she said in the release. “I’m looking forward to working together with IS&T, clinical and business teams across the system to make sure MultiCare continues to be on the cutting edge of technology that will enable us to care for our patients.”
