St. Joseph Hoag Health appoints inaugural COO for acute care delivery, 3 hospital chief executives

St. Joseph Hoag Health, based in Irvine, Calif., named new chief executives for three of its hospitals as well as a new regional COO.

Lee Penrose assumed the newly created position of COO for acute care delivery on Jan. 3, 2017. In this role, he works with system leaders to oversee acute care operations across Orange County and the High Desert region. He previously served as president and CEO of St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, Calif.

Brian Helleland will serve as the new chief executive of St. Jude Medical Center. He most recently served as the hospital’s COO.

Additionally, Mission Hospital, a member of the St. Joseph Hoag Health network, named Tarek Salaway chief executive for both its campuses in Mission Viejo, Calif., and Laguna Beach, Calif. Previously, Mr. Salaway was the hospital’s COO.

Finally, Orange, Calif.-based St. Joseph Hospital Chief Executive Steven C. Moreau is retiring in March 2017. Mr. Moreau has been with St. Joseph in 2010. Jeremy Zoch, PhD, the hospital’s current executive vice president and COO will succeed him.
