Spectrum Health names Tina Freese Decker COO

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health appointed Tina Freese Decker executive vice president and COO effective April 24.

Here are six things to know.

1. As COO, Ms. Freese Decker will oversee strategy and operations for the nonprofit system, as well as Spectrum Health Hospital Group, Spectrum Health Medical Group, human resources and information services.

2. She previously served as president of Spectrum Health Hospital Group, a position she began in July 2014.

3. Ms. Freese Decker joined Spectrum in 2002 as a postgraduate fellow in healthcare administration. She became director of system strategic planning and development in 2003 and was promoted to vice president of system strategic planning and development in 2006. At that time, she also became the executive director of Spectrum Health Regional Hospital Network.

4. She was named president of Greenville, Mich.-based Spectrum Health United Hospital and Lakeview, Mich.-based Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital in 2011. In 2013, she became senior vice president and chief strategy officer.

5. Doug Apple, MD, will become interim president of Spectrum Health Medical Group and Gwen Sandefur will become interim president of Spectrum Health Hospital Group, effective April 24.  

6. Seth Wolk, MD, who previously served as president of Spectrum Health Medical Group and CMO, will serve only as the system’s CMO. He had been president of Spectrum Health Medical Group, since March 2014, and became CMO in July 2014.
