Mr. Gerlach is currently the vice president and COO of Glendale (Calif.) Memorial Hospital and Health Center.
When he takes the helm at SVMH in late March, Mr. Gerlach will earn an annual salary of $450,000.
SVMH extended an offer to Mr. Gerlach earlier this week.
