Here are six things to know:
1. Mr. Simmons is currently chief operating and administrative officer at Providence Alaska.
2. He has worked at Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services since 2007, serving in several leadership roles, including as CEO of Providence’s Northwest Washington Region.
3. Prior to Providence, he was senior associate administrator for University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
4. Mr. Simmons is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a clinical professor in Seattle-based University of Washington’s health services department.
5. He holds a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Washington.
6. Mr. Simmons succeeds Bruce Lamoureux, who is retiring. Mr. Lamoureux will stay on with the organization until June 2019 to ensure a smooth transition.
