Here are five things to know:
1. Most recently, Mr. Applebaum served as president and CEO of Twin County Regional Healthcare in Galax, Va.
2. He has also served as senior vice president and COO for Morgantown-based West Virginia University Hospitals.
3. He holds a master of health administration degree from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
4. Mr. Applebaum replaces Joy Greear, who has been serving as interim president and COO of the medical center.
5. Ms. Greear took over in July 2016, when then-COO Kathie Johnson left for a new job.
