Northwell CEO Michael Dowling to chair Institute for Healthcare Improvement

Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Great Neck, N.Y.-based Northwell Health, has been named board chair of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

Mr. Dowling has been on the board of the IHI since 2010, and will replace Gary Kaplan, MD, CEO of Seattle-based Virginia Mason Health System. Mr. Dowling’s term will run through May 2019.

“IHI is energizing and inspiring improvements in the quality of healthcare around the globe,” said Mr. Dowling. “I’m honored to serve as chair of an organization committed to redesigning health care into a system without errors, waste, delay and unsustainable costs.”

Mr. Dowling has led Northwell Health as president and CEO since 2002.
