New Orleans executive named CEO of Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital: 4 things to know

Mario Garner, EdD, has been appointed as the first senior vice president and CEO of Pearland, Texas-based Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital, which is scheduled to open in 2016.

Here are four things to know about Dr. Garner.

1. Dr. Garner will join Memorial Hermann Aug. 17.

2. Prior to accepting his new role, Dr. Garner served as the inaugural president and CEO of the New Orleans East Hospital. He joined New Orleans East Hospital in August 2013 while the campus was still under construction. During his tenure, Dr. Garner successfully recruited hospital leadership, staff and physicians to re-establish a full-service inpatient hospital to an area severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina, according to Memorial Hermann.

3. Prior to his job at New Orleans East Hospital, Dr. Garner served as COO of Hospital Corporation of America’s Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Ga. He held the same position for the Regional Medical Center of Acadiana in Lafayette, La.

4. He was recently named the Young Healthcare Executive of the Year by the American College of Healthcare Executives.
