The children’s hospital is part of the University of Mississippi Medical Center and is the only children’s hospital in the state. 
Ms. Welander, a pediatric nurse, most recently served as director of children’s heart services and clinical director of children’s critical care at UMMC.
Ms. Welander earned her BSN at the Mississippi University for Women School of Nursing in Columbus, then went on to earn her MSN and DNP at the UMMC School of Nursing.
She is replacing Terri Gillespie, MSN, who was recently named CNO of UMMC.
