Memorial Hermann Health System selects Dr. David Callender as CEO: 6 notes

Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System has named David L. Callender, MD, president and CEO, effective Sept. 1.

Six notes:

1. Dr. Callender is currently president of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, a role he has held since 2007.

2. After a hurricane damaged the University of Texas Medical Branch Health campus in 2008, he led the construction and revitalization effort.

3. He was previously associate vice chancellor and CEO for University of California Los Angeles Health.

4. He has also served as executive vice president and COO of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

5. Dr. Callender is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and holds an MBA from the University of Houston.

6. He succeeds Charles “Chuck” D. Stokes, who is retiring.
