Martha's Vineyard Hospital names CEO roughly 7 months after unexpectedly firing former executive

The Oaks Bluff, Mass.-based Martha's Vineyard Hospital board of trustees named Denise Schepici president and CEO of the hospital, effective this month. The appointment comes roughly seven months after the board made the unanticipated decision to fire former president and CEO Joe Woodin last June, according to the hospital's Facebook page.

The board unanimously selected Ms. Schepici to lead the hospital during a Dec. 28 meeting. Officials noted Ms. Schepici has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare leadership and management. Prior to joining Martha's Vineyard Hospital, she served as chief administrative officer at Framingham, Mass.-based MetroWest Medical Center.

The hospital board of trustees said last June it made the formal decision to fire Mr. Woodin June 7. However, Mr. Woodin told the Vineyard Gazette he was "summarily fired" June 5 with "no notice."

At the time of his dismissal, Mr. Woodin had served as president and CEO of the hospital for just over one year.
