Dr. Kiefer was tapped as interim CEO in November, replacing Dennis Hunger shortly after Devin Michael Caraccio, MSN, ARNP, an internal medicine hospitalist, was found dead in an on-site office. Mr. Caraccio’s death prompted an ongoing police investigation, which found cellphone video indicating that he committed acts of sexual assault on nine patients while they were asleep or unconscious.

Prior to joining Ottumwa Regional Health Center, Dr. Kiefer served Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista, Ariz,. as chief operating officer. His tenure begins immediately, according to a Jan. 26 news release from the hospital.
