Huntsville Memorial Hospital selects acting CEO: 5 things to know

Huntsville (Texas) Memorial Hospital appointed Steven L. Smith interim CEO, effective Feb. 11.

Five things to know:

1. Mr. Smith most recently served as CEO of Matagorda Regional Medical Center in Bay City, Texas. He was an employee of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health Resources, which provided leadership for the hospital.

2. He has also served as CEO of Sugar Land (Texas) Surgical Hospital and CEO of Kingwood (Texas) Specialty Hospital.

3. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

4. He spearheaded the formation of the Texas Rural Accountable Care Organization and served as its board chair for three years.

5. Mr. Smith is joining Huntsville Memorial as an employee of Healthcare Management Partners, a turnaround and consulting firm the hospital’s board hired in April 2018. However, the hospital corporation, hospital district or future owner of Huntsville Memorial can hire Mr. Smith as permanent CEO.
