Flemington, N.J.-based Hunterdon Health appointed Kristy Alfano, MSN, RN, permanent president and CEO, effective Sept. 24.

Ms. Alfano had held the role in an interim capacity since July 1, following Patrick Gavin’s retirement. Previously, she served as executive vice president and COO.

Ms. Alfano not only started her career as a nurse at Hunterdon Medical Center but also was born there.

She moved up through several leadership roles at the system, including director of the emergency department and assistant vice president of clinical operations, according to a Sept. 28 news release.

She will keep leading the health system as its proposed strategic partnership with Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health moves forward.

“Kristy has demonstrated that she can lead with both steadiness and vision, and we are grateful for her willingness to take on this responsibility as we continue our efforts to pursue a strategic partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health,” Board Chair K.C. Rondello, MD, said in the release.

The two nonprofit systems signed a letter of intent June 22 to explore a proposed merger.
