Flemington, N.J.-based Hunterdon Health promoted Kristy Alfano, MSN, RN, to interim president and CEO, effective July 1.
Ms. Alfano has served as executive vice president and COO since 2023 and was selected by the board to succeed President and CEO Patrick Gavin, who plans to retire June 30, according to a June 8 hospital news release.
Ms. Alfano began her career as a nurse at Hunterdon Medical Center and has held several leadership roles across the health system, including director of the intermediate care unit, director of patient care experience, director of the emergency department, assistant vice president of clinical operations and executive vice president and COO.
Mr. Gavin said he is retiring at the end of his current contract after nearly four decades in executive leadership roles, including more than seven years at Hunterdon Health. During the past eight years, he led the system through the COVID-19 pandemic and oversaw initiatives including maintaining an “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group since 2020, emergency department enhancements and renovations to the Lambertville Health Campus.
Hunterdon Health operates Hunterdon Medical Center — a 178-bed community hospital — as well as more than 30 primary and specialty practices, according to its website.
