Gar Atchison to lead UP Health System-Marquette

Gar Atchison has been appointed CEO of UP Health System-Marquette (Mich.) and market CEO of UP Health System, based in Marquette, according to WLUC-TV, a dual NBC/Fox affiliate.

In his new role, he will lead UP Health System-Marquette as well as have oversight over UP Health System-Portage in Hancock, Mich., and UP Health System-Bell in Ishpeming, Mich.

Mr. Atchison most recently worked at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C., where he served in several leadership roles, including CEO, COO and vice president of business development. He was also CEO of Hickory Orthopaedic Center and a practice administrator for Bay Street Orthopaedics in Petoskey, Mich.

He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds an MBA from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

He replaces Jerry Dooley, who has been serving as interim CEO of UP Health System-Marquette.
