Four things to know:
1. Mr. Sphon had served as Excela’s acting CEO since April.
2. Excela credited him and his management team for such operational improvements as shortening lengths of stay and time in the emergency room from arrival to discharge.
3. Teresa Petrick, chair of Excela’s board of trustees, said in a news release: “John has demonstrated a consistent track record of significant success in his over 30 years in the healthcare sector. He is highly skilled in such areas as business development and operations, establishing and nurturing effective physician relationships and employee engagement.”
4. Mr. Sphon succeeds Bob Rogalski, who unexpectedly stepped down in April.
