Dr. Donald S. Sheldon named regional president of UH community hospitals: 4 things to know

Donald S. Sheldon, MD, has been appointed regional president of community hospitals for Cleveland-based University Hospitals.

Here are four things to know about Dr. Sheldon.

1. In his new role, Dr. Sheldon will work with the UH community hospitals “to fully integrate our growing health system, assuring highest quality, patient-centered care,” Jeffrey H. Peters, MD, COO of University Hospitals, said in a news release. UH community hospitals include the following:

  • UH Ahuja Medical Center (Beachwood, Ohio).
  • UH Bedford (Ohio) Medical Center.
  • UH Conneaut (Ohio) Medical Center.
  • UH Elyria (Ohio) Medical Center.
  • UH Geauga Medical Center (Chardon, Ohio).
  • UH Geneva (Ohio) Medical Center.
  • UH Parma Medical Center (Cleveland).
  • UH Portage Medical Center (Ravenna, Ohio).
  • UH Richmond Medical Center (Cleveland).

2. Dr. Sheldon has served as president of UH Elyria since 2009. Prior to that, he served 10 years as UH Elyria’s CMO.

3. He is board certified in both emergency medicine and family medicine. He has many years of experience as an emergency physician and was medical director of his emergency medicine group and department.

4. He serves on many community groups’ boards, including the Lorain (Ohio) County Free Clinic, for which he has served as a volunteer physician, medical director and board member since its inception in 1986.
